Breast lift surgery is advisable for patients who are satisfied with the volume of their breasts, but whose breasts have lost their round shape and have started to sag. Special surgical techniques can reshape and lift the breasts.
After breast lift surgery, the breast’s sensitivity to touch can decrease or increase. Some patients describe diminished sensitivity, while other patients report that sensitivity increases after a breast lift.
During breast lift surgery, the nipples are slightly reduced in size and adapted to the lifted breast. The position of the nipples is also modified; they are placed higher up, which enhances the overall appearance of your breasts.
In principle, the connections from the mammary gland to the nipple are retained, so breastfeeding remains possible after breast lift surgery. However, you should wait at least 1 year after surgery before attempting to breastfeed to ensure that healing is complete.
Breast lift surgery can easily be combined with other procedures during the same operation. These procedures may involve the face, abdomen or other parts of the body. Please do not hesitate to discuss your goals with Dr. Hubmann during your consultation.
Pain can occur during the days following breast lift surgery. However, during your stay with us, Dr. Hubmann will manage your pain and prescribe appropriate pain medication for your recovery at home.
Different techniques are used for breast lift surgery. Smaller amounts of excess skin can be removed using an incision at the edge of the nipple (areola). In this case, the scar will be practically invisible at the transition from the dark skin around the nipple to the rest of the skin on the breast. In many cases, another incision is made running vertically from the nipple to the crease under the breast; however, this scar will fade significantly over time. For large amounts of excess skin, another incision is placed that runs horizontally and partially on the underside of the breast. However, in most cases this scar is completely hidden below your new breast. Dr. Hubmann recommends that you regularly apply fat-containing cream or silicon-containing scar gel to the scar starting on the 15th day after surgery. In addition, during the first 6 to 12 months after surgery, you should consistently protect scars from the sun by wearing sun protective clothing or applying sunscreen with SPF of at least 50. This will promote fading of the scars and reduce the risk of scar tissue proliferation. In general, the amount of scarring that occurs after surgery varies widely from patient to patient.
Your reshaped breasts continue to be subject to normal changes of the body. It is therefore possible that your breasts will start to sag again over time. To offset this effect, Dr. Hubmann uses state-of-the-art surgical techniques entailing the construction of an internal bra.
